Mike was driving when his vision suddenly blurred. Though he thought he could stop in time, he crashed into another car and was found unconscious by passersby. During the experience, he watched the situation from a higher vantage point beside the car, seeing other cars passing but unable to see himself. He experienced a short series of pictures and heard a pleasant, warm voice speaking to him, though he doesn't recall the conversation details. He then found himself in endless darkness with the awareness of being dead, but without fear. He thought dying happened so fast that there was no need to fear it. He felt infinite lightness, love, happiness, contentment, security, and well-being permeating through him. The darkness was as infinitely intensive and endless as these positive feelings. Everything was absolutely quiet and perfect. He began counting, initially thinking he was counting how long it took to die, but did so calmly without fear, reaching 22 before waking to see the emergency doctor. Medical tests revealed severe abnormalities: CK level above 5000, O2 saturation 50%, pO2 28mm Hg, indicating a serious cardiac or metabolic crisis. The experience eliminated his fear of death and made him want to stand up more for his values and beliefs.
