At age 11, Miia was lying in bed when she felt her body go numb, first on the right side then the left. She managed to shout "help me" before everything went dark. She felt an electric shock through her entire body and felt "ripped off" from her body, initially experiencing strong fear. She then found herself floating above her convulsing body, observing it with calm detachment. Her mother was crying hysterically beside her shouting "don't die!" When her mother went two rooms away to call an ambulance, Miia could still hear her voice clearly as if she were next to her - a fact her mother later confirmed. While floating near the ceiling, Miia looked toward the bedroom door and somehow knew there was an invisible door above it that she could use someday, realizing at that moment she would not die this time. After another electric shock sensation, she woke up with paramedics trying to help her walk downstairs. She was later diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy. The experience eliminated her fear of death and strengthened her existing spiritual beliefs, though it created distance from others who didn't believe her account. She developed possible premonition abilities afterward.
