In June 2001, Alicia had been working as a Dunkin Donuts manager when she felt sick for several days. Alicia awoke with a breathing tube, surrounded by nurses, with her Company Commander standing tearfully in the background. Doctors informed her she was only the second person in the hospital's history to survive such high blood alcohol content (though she had septic shock, not alcohol poisoning), having died in both the ambulance and ER. The experience strengthened her spiritual beliefs and conviction about consciousness continuing after death.
