In 1981, at age 18, Alain experienced a near-death event following a dangerous suffocation game outside a neighborhood bar. A friend compressed his rib cage to induce unconsciousness, similar to the "choking game." When Alain lost consciousness, he found himself in a luminous tunnel with an increasingly bright light at the end. The tunnel was open, not stifling, and filled with a soothing brightness.
At the end of the tunnel, Alain saw at least three silhouettes of beings made of light waiting for him. They appeared benevolent and welcoming, with one larger figure standing in front. These beings were distinct from the surrounding light, which was incredibly bright but not blinding. Alain felt he was in a soothing, welcoming, and positive place where he felt completely at peace. The experience was unlike anything in his earthly life. Alain was suddenly brought back to consciousness when a friend slapped him as he lay on the ground. His first words were expressing regret at being awakened, saying he had felt good and should have been left there. When he shared his experience, his friends thought he was dreaming. This experience profoundly changed Alain's life, giving him strength to continue living despite trials and removing his fear of death. He kept the experience mostly private for years until learning about NDEs and realizing others had similar experiences throughout history. The experience continues to help him daily and prevents him from doing harm.
