Lawrance was hiking in extreme heat (108°F) when he suffered severe heat stroke. After completing a 32-mile hike with a damaged water bladder, he collapsed from dehydration. He experienced a profound NDE where he encountered a conscious light entity that communicated with him telepathically. The light asked if he was ready to move on, and he was given time to say goodbye to his children in a vision before crossing into what he described as complete nothingness. Medical personnel stated he died several times and was resuscitated. The return to his body was extremely painful, both physically and emotionally, as consciousness returned in waves over what felt like an extended period.
