On February 13, 2013, Wendy experienced a medical crisis related to her autoimmune disease Henoch-Schonlein purpura. After feeling unwell at work with swollen legs and hands, she went home and fainted after showering. Her blood pressure dropped dangerously to 60/40. During this medical emergency, she instantly found herself in a place of pure white light where she encountered her deceased parents - her father who died in 2007 and mother who died in 2010. She experienced an all-encompassing love beyond earthly description and had a profound conversation with her parents. While present with them, she could hear her husband and son in the background as if they were a dream. She struggled with the decision to stay in this peaceful realm or return to earth. Her parents reciprocated expressions of love, but ultimately she chose to return for her son who needed a mother. The experience felt more real and present than physical reality, with her earthly family seeming distant and dreamlike. Upon awakening, she found EMTs and ambulances had arrived. The experience eliminated her fear of death and reinforced her belief in an afterlife where consciousness continues.
