Joe was hit at 55+ mph causing catastrophic injuries including 6 ruptured discs, fractured skull, and spinal cord damage. After impact, he experienced a tunnel-like whirlpool with bright white light at the center, feeling drawn through it. Using the ancient HU mantra he had practiced for 32 years through Eckankar teachings, he repeatedly left his body during excruciating pain episodes. A spinal injury IV treatment was reducing paralysis but causing severe spasms. Every hour for over 24 hours, he sang HU to lift outside his body for 30+ minutes at a time while maintaining awareness of the room. The night nurse witnessed these episodes, asking what sound he made that allowed him to do what "no one can do." A transplant team waited as he was expected to die. He stayed conscious outside his body focusing on warm light beyond the operating room, demonstrating to medical staff that consciousness exists outside the body.
