Ray experienced two profound NDEs - at age 10 (1966) and age 16 (1973). In the first, he was practicing a judo move when he landed directly on his head, experiencing the most intense pain in his head and spine before collapsing unconscious. Paramedics found him clinically dead and revived him with ice and resuscitation efforts.
During his first NDE, Ray's body felt torn apart as his vision spiraled through a funnel of swirling colors. After releasing his fear, he experienced a bodiless state with 360-degree vision in all dimensions simultaneously. He was absorbed by a Being of Light and Love, experiencing love "times a million billion." At golden gates in fog, he reunited joyfully with his deceased dog Skippy. Despite his pleas to stay, he was told firmly it was not his time and was pulled back into his body as paramedics revived him. His second NDE at 16 (from accidental overdose) was more profound. Again experiencing the fragmenting funnel that dissolved his ego into Spirit, he entered intense, burning "Now-ness" where time ceased to exist. He became a verb rather than a noun - "Ray-ing instead of Ray." A Being of Light showed him "This is Who You Really Are," revealing his unity with infinite galaxies while remaining himself. He was then guided to an even Greater Being of intense Light - God - and became one with Love multiplied infinitely, understanding that every being in Creation was part of this Greater Whole. Ray received two crucial messages: understanding Who (not what) he Really Is, and that he "may return anytime." Since these experiences, he has no fear of death but sometimes struggles with suicidal ideation, knowing the peace that awaits while understanding he cannot act on such impulses. --- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: Both experiences feature divine light, overwhelming love, separation of consciousness from body, meeting deceased loved ones (Skippy), and being sent back with purpose. The golden gates imagery, the authoritative voice about timing, and transformation through divine encounter align with biblical accounts. The unity with God while maintaining individual identity reflects being made in God's image. Unbiblical elements: The second experience's description of becoming "all-powerful" and "one with all Creation" suggests pantheistic rather than biblical theism. The message about returning "anytime I wished" could imply control over death inconsistent with divine sovereignty. The persistent suicidal ideation, while understandable, suggests incomplete integration of the experience's meaning within a biblical framework of purpose and divine timing.
