Simon experienced a near-death experience in 1994 following a severe road accident that left him in a coma. The accident caused significant trauma requiring surgical intervention, and he was placed under general anesthesia during emergency surgery.
During the surgery, Simon found himself observing the scene from above. He could see the surgeon operating on him in detail, watching every procedure the surgeon performed. This out-of-body perspective gave him a clear view of the medical team working to save his life. He was conscious of being outside his physical body while simultaneously aware that the body below belonged to him. The most significant aspect of his experience was encountering his deceased father, who had passed away two and a half years earlier. His father communicated with him, delivering a crucial message that Simon's time had not yet come. His father explained that Simon's mother and sister still needed him, providing a clear reason for why he must return to life. This encounter provided both comfort and direction during the experience. Upon awakening from the coma, Simon retained vivid memories of both observing the surgery and the conversation with his father. The experience left him with a certainty about the continuation of consciousness after death and the ongoing presence of deceased loved ones in some form.
