Goldie attempted suicide in 1985 and was found unresponsive without vital signs by her sister and significant other, who performed CPR on her. During the experience, she floated above her body feeling weightless and observed a black circle that grew larger, becoming a tunnel with a comforting light at the end. She felt no pain and headed toward the welcoming light through darkness.
When she heard her sister call her name, the voice was like lightning passing through the tunnel toward the light. Another voice said "Go back. It's not time" but Goldie screamed "No!" not wanting to return. She felt someone grab her legs and drag her backward away from the light. During this backward journey, she became aware of dark beings grabbing at her but not grasping her. The black circle closed, preventing re-entry to the tunnel. Goldie observed her sister and significant other performing CPR on her body, with her sister crying and pleading for her return. With nowhere else to go, she sat on her body, laid down into it, and awoke in terrible pain and gasping. The experience transformed her from atheist to deeply spiritual, developing Cherokee religious practices. She now experiences psychic phenomena including seeing spirits, receiving visits from deceased individuals, and knowing about dangers before they're visible. She believes earthly life is temporary with a purpose for spiritual beings, that difficulties remove impurities so the spirit can shine pure, and that love is the only law of the spirit domain.
