Ginny, an undergraduate student, experienced respiratory arrest during a severe asthma attack. She was transferred from the health center to the hospital, where she was turning blue and fighting for each breath. The medical staff worked to intubate her as she stopped breathing.
During the experience, Ginny floated above her body and observed the medical staff working on her, hearing them talking and machines going off. She was surrounded by the whitest, brightest light that didn't hurt her eyes, feeling incredible peace, comfort, and joy. She found herself in a huge white space filled with love and walked through a flowing white lace curtain that seemed alive and breathing. She encountered a male figure in a white gown with a glow, who told her "Don't worry Ginny the breath of life will be breathed back into you. Your time has not yet come." Though Ginny didn't want to return, she was pulled back rapidly into her body, experiencing the sensation of coming through the breathing tube into her mouth, throat, trachea and lungs. She could see this happening and heard mechanical breathing. She woke up in the ICU five days later with confirmation that she had indeed stopped breathing and been resuscitated. The experience transformed her faith from uncertainty about God to absolute certainty of His existence and the reality of the afterlife. She no longer fears death and gained a deep understanding that she is loved.
