Sharon, a retired RN of 36 years, developed severe bilateral pneumonia requiring intubation and ventilator support. She was comatose for seven days and has no memory of the physical events. During her nine-day absence from the physical world, she experienced a journey through a tunnel, floating or swimming without effort. She first entered a dark, chaotic space with bright primary colors forming unremembered letters - this space felt hard, tiring, and unpleasant. She then moved through the tunnel into a space with soft white and golden shimmering light. Moving effortlessly toward the light, she felt incredible peace, calm, and a complete letting go of tension. She saw the soft, worn folds of a light blue and gold robe and knew it was God, though she only saw His legs. She heard gentle words she was told to memorize: "Seek not to understand so that you may believe, but seek to believe so that you may understand." She also heard repeatedly "There is something important you must do." As she was pulled back, she quickly looked over her shoulder and saw her deceased poodle Coco entering the light. She later discovered the words were from the poet Pablo, whom she had never heard of before. The experience transformed her - she became calmer, more forgiving, takes one day at a time, and no longer fears death.
