While working at a pet shop, Serena experienced a severe epileptic seizure that led to convulsions lasting 14 minutes, purple lips, and cardiac arrest. Her neighbor's husband, who was in the army, performed CPR after she lost her pulse while waiting for the ambulance. During the experience, she entered a dark tunnel where she was blissfully flying, feeling happier than ever before. She was laughing with joy as she flew through what appeared to be falling snow in cool air, hearing happy laughter around her. She experienced overwhelming peace, lightness, and total bliss, feeling united with the world and understanding everything about the universe. Something or someone sent her back before she could continue further. She regained consciousness after 1.5 hours in the emergency room and was diagnosed with general photosensitive myoclonic epilepsy. The experience transformed her perspective on death - she now has no fear of dying and believes she will be serene when her time comes. The medical team confirmed she would have died without the immediate CPR intervention.
