Sebastian, struggling with being gay and substance abuse, carefully planned and executed a suicide attempt by overdosing on stockpiled psychiatric medications. His brother unexpectedly arrived to bring him to family, finding him heavily drugged. After sitting on his mother's couch for an extended period, family realized something was wrong and called paramedics. Sebastian was rushed to hospital and placed on life support with predictions he would die or remain vegetative. During his clinical crisis, he traveled through an oppressively dark tunnel described as tar-like void of complete creative absence. Emerging from the tunnel, he floated above his body, seeing himself pale with tubes and medical equipment from all dimensional angles. He was hyper-aware of his family's pain, especially his mother's, experiencing their emotions as a form of communication. His deceased maternal grandmother appeared alongside a brilliant light he recognized as Jesus, who commanded "It is not your time yet. You have other lives to touch. Go back home!" He was then forcefully shot back into his body. This experience eventually led Sebastian to convert to Catholicism and teach adult catechism, though his immediate recovery was complicated by continued substance abuse. The NDE confirmed for him Jesus as literal Messiah and gave him purpose, though full spiritual integration took years to achieve.
