In December 1985, Donna's vehicle was struck by a freight train at high speed at an unprotected double crossing. She received the first impact on her door and sustained multiple injuries, not expected to survive the night. After the second impact, she felt herself outside her body with no pain. She found herself in a funnel-like atmosphere where her life regressed rapidly before her eyes. Simultaneously, she saw the most beautiful field of flowers with awesome light pulling her with wonderful sensation. She desperately wanted to go there but knew her young daughter needed her. As she approached being born in her life regression, she knew returning to the womb meant no return. Taking one last attempt to breathe, she came back gasping for air in full pain. The experience transformed her religious views from Catholic to agnostic, eliminated her fear of death, and gave her understanding that traditional religious teachings about afterlife were incorrect. She gained new energy in her hands and heightened sensitivity to others.
