On December 10, 2014, Cristina, a 33-year-old Christian woman with congenital heart problems, underwent coronary surgery under local anesthesia. When contrast medium was injected, she couldn't breathe and suffered through hours of painful surgery. Afterward, while waiting on the bed, she greeted an elderly patient being transported past her. Upon making eye contact with the elderly man, she suddenly found herself in bright green hills under a blue sky with colors more vivid than ever seen in life. She existed as a spirit without visible body parts, feeling other presences as light beside her, experiencing the most beautiful feeling of eternal peace. She felt she had reached more peace than thought possible - not an end but a beginning. Suddenly returning, she saw a powerful light above her while on a bed with people yelling her name. She said "I WANT TO GO BACK THERE" before recognizing a nurse and realizing she was back in surgery after cardiac arrest requiring defibrillation. Everyone said it was miraculous she survived. If nurses had transported her first instead of the elderly man, she would have been in an elevator without a defibrillator when arrest occurred. The experience was preceded by a 2005 incident where she felt a comforting presence while praying desperately in church about family illness, and results came back positive. She held tight to a St. Rita ring in ICU and stabilized. The experience eliminated her lifelong terror of death, confirmed her Christian faith, and left her wondering why God gave her a second chance. She immediately shared the experience even in the surgery room.
