During a 2008 summer vacation in Spain, Courtni T experienced a near-drowning while canoeing on the Dordogne River. Despite warning the person steering to avoid going right at a difficult river segment, they went right anyway and the canoe overturned. Courtni became stuck underwater in branches while her two friends' legs passed by at top speed. Unable to free herself from the cloudy water, she gave up struggling. She then experienced a rapid life review and felt the arrival of her deceased father behind her on the left. They communicated without words through love as he guided her to understand she had a choice between life and experiencing love on earth. She was shown the scenario of her death including her loved ones' sadness, friends returning to Paris without her, and her little sister's sorrow, which she found unbearable. Reconnecting with her body in the aquatic environment, she tore her pants and t-shirt with extraordinary strength to free herself from the branches. Swimming tens of meters to reach an island, she felt like being born again as a naked newborn seeking light. Simultaneously, her sister in Paris left a message on her answering machine asking if she was well. The experience transformed Courtni from atheist to believer in the afterlife. She gained certainty about continued existence after death, reduced fear of death and life, increased compassion, found her first love afterward, and developed confidence. Her father's presence and the choice given between continuing to the light or returning for earthly love provided comfort and purpose. She describes the communication as pure love and support with inner strength.
