Christian Y was riding his motorcycle on July 8, 2013, when a car ran a red light and struck him, causing severe injuries including a nearly severed leg and shattered spine. He went into deep shock and stopped breathing. While being loaded into the ambulance at the accident site, Christian suddenly found himself sitting upright and injury-free next to the EMT, observing his own body on the stretcher being worked on by another EMT. He experienced complete silence and no pain during this out-of-body state. As he began floating above the scene and turning to leave through the ambulance roof, he was suddenly pulled back into his body with a loud "WOOOOSH" sound. Upon re-entering his body, all sounds became extremely loud and painful. The EMT announced "We got him!" and Christian became fully conscious, able to describe his injuries and request a specific trauma center. He then asked permission to pass out. Christian underwent multiple complex surgeries on his back and leg and remained unconscious for two days. During recovery, he experienced intense dreams. The veridical aspect of his experience was his accurate observation of the EMTs working on his body from an external perspective while clinically unresponsive. He reported feeling overwhelming peace during the OBE and understood he needed to help the EMTs save him. The experience left him with certainty about consciousness surviving bodily trauma, though he seeks better understanding of NDE fundamentals.
