Catalina, a laboratory volunteer, was helping a colleague open a stuck autoclave when it exploded due to pressure, causing electrocution and head injury when she fell and struck her head. She lost consciousness for an unknown period. Upon awakening, she found herself outside her body in the same room, able to see her body on the floor. She could receive information without thinking, speaking, or hearing in an all-white, bright environment.
Catalina knew she was dead and felt the deepest sadness and compassion for herself - the first time she had ever been her own friend. She cried, wanting to hug herself and provide comfort. As her life flashed before her on a screen-like display, she remembered she was a mother and saw her son's face. She understood God would let her live again and felt she had a choice. She sensed God's presence on her right side and slightly behind - not seeing but feeling the peace of His presence. God conveyed that kindness should be unconditional, extended to everyone including herself, at all times and circumstances. After the experience, Catalina was able to walk to get help on her own. The encounter fundamentally changed her values - she became focused on giving without expectations, leaving everything in God's hands, and practicing unconditional love. She developed heightened intuition and physical sensations along her spine, feeling her soul more prominently.
