Oscar was a passenger in a violent car accident where two people died. He suffered catastrophic injuries including cerebral hemorrhage, collapsed lung, eight broken ribs, three cracked vertebrae, and a broken hand. He was torn from the vehicle and found on the road still attached to the seat. During the accident, he experienced walking on an ancient bridge made of rock and cobblestones surrounded by dark vastness that went on forever. At the end of the bridge stood a tall male figure in a monk-type robe with long brown hair whose face he couldn't see. Behind the figure was an old wooden door with brilliant, pure light emanating from underneath and around its edges. Though initially scared and confused on the bridge, he felt he knew this figure and was anxious to reach him. They had a conversation he cannot remember, then the figure placed his hand on Oscar's shoulder and he awoke in the Life-flight helicopter. The experience transformed his beliefs from secular atheism to belief in Jesus and the afterlife.
