Omar was hospitalized for severe bronchial asthma causing breathing problems and hypertension. In the ICU, his condition deteriorated into cardiac and respiratory arrest. While unconscious and being resuscitated with multiple adrenaline shots, he experienced floating above his body and could hear doctors discussing his case and the death of another doctor-patient nearby. He moved rapidly toward an intensely bright white light that grew brighter as he approached. He became one with this light energy, experiencing profound peace unlike anything in life. The light had an emotional quality and he felt surrounded by benevolent entities though he saw no one specifically. Everything was the light and peace. After three resuscitation attempts that he heard from his out-of-body position, he thought of his family and returned to his body. The medical staff later confirmed the accuracy of what he heard during his arrest, including details about his tracheotomy and the death of the neighboring patient.
