Barbara T, from Poland, experienced two profound NDEs during surgeries at ages 23 and 26. Her first NDE occurred during gallbladder surgery when she suddenly found herself outside her body, experiencing herself as a speck of consciousness in completely dark, empty space. From above, she observed her body and doctors performing surgery while experiencing overwhelming terror about how to return to her body. Following surgery, her IV arm swelled like a balloon from an apparent allergic reaction, requiring her gown to be cut and medication administered.
Her second, more extensive NDE occurred three years later during surgery for fallopian tube blockage. Under anesthesia, her consciousness awakened with the realization she was dying. She experienced a sensation of collapsing inward like Russian nesting dolls, becoming smaller and smaller. A large screen then displayed a film of her life in reverse chronological order, showing emotionally significant moments that revealed her life's deep meaning in ways she had never considered. This life review, orchestrated by an all-knowing wisdom, continued back to early childhood where she saw her mother as a young girl singing to her. Following the life review, Barbara was pushed with great power into a tunnel at a 45-degree angle, moving very fast while hearing loud ringing and whirring sounds. The tunnel ended suddenly in a bright place where she wasn't alone - other beings had emerged from tunnels simultaneously. These beings communicated telepathically, saying "FINALLY YOU ARE HERE. WE WERE WAITING FOR YOU." When she pretended not to hear, they insisted, then informed her that doctors were fighting for her life, it wasn't her time, and she had something important to do. She experienced a wonderful garden and reached enlightenment with access to new mysteries, though she was told she wouldn't remember the specifics later. Barbara was pulled back twice, returning to her body as doctors were stitching her abdomen. Her first words were "Am I alive, am I really alive?" The anesthesiologist remarked it was her first time in many years having a patient wake asking if they were alive. The surgeon later confirmed severe complications requiring resuscitation with the defibrillator used twice, matching Barbara's experience of two returns. Everything in this world seemed absolutely flat compared to the multiple dimensions she experienced in the other realm, which another woman in "Life After Life" aptly described as "TECHNICAL."
