Anne, a 62-year-old woman, experienced an NDE in 2005 after falling from an unstable stool while reaching for items on a high shelf. She lost her balance, fell backward, and struck her head hard on the floor. Her daughter and uncle immediately rushed to help her as she lay unconscious with her eyes closed. After about half a minute, she opened her eyes but appeared confused and glazed over, not fully present in her body.
During the fall, Anne suddenly found herself in an unknown place, sitting in a vehicle that was moving forward on a road. She knew someone was sitting to her left and driving her, but couldn't turn her head to look - she could only see forward and to the right. The vehicle had no roof and seemed to float or glide over the road rather than drive normally. Along the pavement beside the road, people walked at a slow pace, all appearing very happy. Some smiled and waved at her. She saw her deceased husband with their golden retriever Blondie who had died long ago. She also saw an old fiancé who had died in a car crash and several other deceased individuals. Surprisingly, she saw a woman friend she'd lost contact with years ago and thought was still alive, later discovering the woman had died of cancer. The air had a sweet smell of daffodils. When Anne turned to the unseen driver and communicated in thoughts that her deceased parents were waiting further down the road, a voice responded "Not yet." She then awakened on the floor. While recovering on the sofa, still dizzy, she saw a man with shoulder-length wavy hair wearing a white robe with a rope belt, who looked at her with concerned, loving brown eyes before ascending through the corner of the ceiling and disappearing in a fog. The experience brought Anne great comfort about the afterlife and reduced any fear of death. She believes the robed figure may have been her guardian angel or the same being who was driving her vehicle. Her story has provided comfort to many people, particularly regarding the continuation of consciousness after death.
