In October 1990, Michael overdosed on cocaine/heroin and had a seizure. His friend threw him from the car at the emergency room and fled. Michael left his body and hovered above, watching nurses cut off his clothes and search his wallet for identification. He floated through walls following the medical team as they moved his body down the hall to an exam table. From ceiling level near the exam lights, he observed one doctor and three nurses working on his naked body with numerous tubes. He saw medical equipment including heart monitor, oxygen tank, and his clothes beneath him. He then floated through the wall and saw his mother and Aunt Barbara crying hysterically, trying to look through the triangular door window around 1 AM. Floating back to observe the medical team, he saw his mother through the window and felt scared knowing he had done wrong. A warm, soothing voice said "Go back, not now" and he was sucked back into his body. He woke from coma two days later and accurately described everything including his aunt's unexpected presence and their clothing. The experience led him to sobriety through Narcotics Anonymous and daily prayer for 25 years.
