On June 12, 1995, fifteen-year-old Melisa was a passenger when her friend drove at excessive speed over rural hills, causing a severe accident. Melisa suffered catastrophic injuries including compound arm fractures, dislocated hip with bone damage, six broken ribs, broken nose, scalp injuries, and brain bruising. She was in an induced coma for five days. Upon impact, she saw a bright white-yellow light approaching from the sky and heard a being communicate telepathically: "I'm here. You are going to be okay. It's ok to close your eyes and rest." The being brought immediate relief and comfort. Before waking five days later, Melisa had another experience with earthly-toned beings, particularly a female presence. They debated her return, with Melisa expressing desire to stay for her father and to have a child. The being said if she returned, she would have a child but also a special duty. She was told she needed healing and thousands of bees entered and exited her body through various openings, creating phantom sensations she still feels. The experience profoundly changed her personality and how she perceived the world. She developed psychic abilities and heightened empathy.
