Ana had an ovarian cyst that became serious, requiring surgery with internal bleeding that was dangerous. During surgery preparation, she asked doctors if everything would be alright. During the operation, she suddenly felt unbelievable relief, lightness, and weightlessness. She heard someone saying there was a lot of blood, then stopped breathing. She thought dying was not scary or painful as she had feared since childhood. A doctor cried out that she wasn't breathing and needed immediate intubation. She heard a woman saying the suture had to be done carefully since she was young and thin. Later, the surgeon told her the surgery was successful but that she had given them a scare. Ana remembered what happened, and a nurse later confirmed she had stopped breathing. The experience was characterized by incredible vividness and clarity, with sound seeming to rise up within her observing self rather than through her ears. She felt disconnected from events as if watching a movie unrelated to her fate, yet maintained heightened consciousness throughout. The experience eliminated her fear of death and led to greater compassion and meaning in life.
