On February 5, 2007, Tikvah experienced a profound cardiac arrest that would have been fatal if not for an intuitive warning that compelled her to leave home and drive to a specific grocery store where help would be available. After three months of exhaustively nursing her dying father who had passed in her arms, she suffered complete cardiac arrest with clinical death, requiring multiple defibrillator shocks and CPR from EMTs to revive her. During the arrest, she felt herself sinking like water draining from a bathtub, losing all physical sensation while maintaining clear awareness of dying, feeling euphoric peace and the conviction that her life was complete except for not having written a will. She experienced separation from her body, heightened consciousness where she could feel others' emotions and everything was connected with no empty space between things, and heard both earthly chaos and clear voices from another realm. Her deceased father appeared younger than when he died, walking toward and greeting her, while she traveled on a vehicle with others until a being told her she must get off at the next stop because she had something to do for the people there. The experience included understanding universal connection, telepathic communication, and being in an unearthly realm with other beings, though not resembling any earthly location. After receiving a St. Jude pacemaker and surviving as one of only 5% who retain mental function after such an event, she developed enhanced perception where she sees air as filled with substance rather than empty space and understands the interconnection of all existence.
