During a horse jumping practice in October 1980, Tammy's horse caught its leg on a jump and flipped over, crushing her between the horse and a wooden coup jump that shattered on impact. The tremendous force should have been fatal, yet she survived with a broken collarbone, head laceration, severe concussion, and extensive road rash. Instantly upon impact, Tammy found herself floating three to four times tree height above the accident scene, observing the chaos below with remarkable calm and curiosity. She could see her trainer running toward someone on the ground but didn't initially realize it was her own body. Her visual perception expanded to nearly 360 degrees, and she felt her back against an invisible barrier that she intuitively knew would transport her elsewhere if she turned to examine it. Rather than focusing on the emergency below, she became fascinated by how a row of pine trees looked from her elevated perspective. Without warning, she suddenly returned to her body, covered in blood and cradled in her trainer's arms, filled with an inexplicable peace and certainty that she would be fine despite the severity of her injuries. Since the experience, she has developed powerful déjà vu episodes where she can predict exact conversations and events, feeling as though she's experiencing them on a repeating loop.
