Ivan was a child who dove into the deep end of a public swimming pool while on holiday, despite not knowing how to swim. As he began drowning and thrashing in panic, a sudden calm overcame him with a sense that "all will be well." During the underwater drowning phase, he experienced an out-of-body perception where he observed himself thrashing in the water from outside his body.
