In November 1966, Ronnie was sledding down an alley when he entered an avenue and struck the front bumper of a white Cadillac with his head. Instantly, he left his body and found himself hovering on the sidewalk, not standing on the ground. A girl nearby was screaming in terror at what she saw. Ronnie looked and saw his body about to be run over by the car. With supernatural knowledge, he knew that to survive, he needed to slow the car and ensure his body was face-up when the tires passed over him, as being run over face-down would be fatal.
Using unexplained abilities, Ronnie slowed the car and directed it to run over his body face-up with both front and rear tires. His body became stuck behind the rear tire and was dragged down the road until falling out at an intersection. A man rushed from his house and cradled Ronnie's dying body while his wife called an ambulance. Ronnie hovered over his body as he was told to "make up your mind" about returning. Seeing his body bleeding from mouth, ears, and nose, he initially refused to return. He then experienced traveling through a dark tunnel toward an intensely bright light that didn't hurt his eyes, feeling immense love like being in his mother's arms but much greater. He emerged into a foggy realm where he encountered golden steps with a plaque reading "flight" with a three-digit number. His deceased father descended the steps wearing the white corsage from his funeral. His father smiled, showing his gold tooth, and invited Ronnie to live with him. When Ronnie expressed concern that his mother and brother would cry, he heard a sound like a record playing backwards. Ronnie returned to his crushed body with broken ribs puncturing his lungs and his body cavity filling with blood. Doctors said there was nothing they could do. However, by morning, inexplicably no blood was found in his cavity and he stabilized without surgery. He survived what should have been fatal injuries.
