Dr. Gillian, a physician, was initially diagnosed with a dissecting aortic aneurysm via CT scan in May 2013, though this was later unconfirmed. While being wheeled to a procedure, she lost vision, then hearing, then consciousness. Her heart stopped briefly after developing severe hypotension (systolic to 30) and bradycardia. She had seizures and required resuscitation.
During the NDE, she experienced being in vast endless space filled with brilliant white light with panoramic 360-degree perception. She spent what felt like weeks or months with beings she felt she'd known for a long time - appearing as brilliant emerald green and deep purple points of light. She had her earthly experiences "downloaded" and reached consensus with the beings to return as her life was unfinished. She then hovered as consciousness watching a face she eventually realized was her own, with green eyes looking familiar. Feeling compassion for the suffering face pulled her back into her body. Medical staff confirmed cardiac arrest with hypotension and bradycardia from prolonged vasovagal response. The experienced ICU nurse who saved her went home early, shaken. Gillian remained in ICU for days with erratic vital signs. Post-NDE, she has enhanced empathy and has shared her experience with medical colleagues who've been surprisingly supportive.
