At age 8, Rebekah went to a city pool and jumped off the diving board despite not knowing how to swim. She panicked, went under water three times, and began drowning. During her near-death experience, she saw beautiful colors like a swirling rainbow tunnel with bright light. She saw shadowy angelic figures and heard an omnipresent voice that was neither male nor female. The voice told her she had a choice to continue on or go back. After thinking briefly, she decided she wanted to grow up and that her parents would miss her, so she chose to return. The peace and tranquility were overwhelming but she chose to go back. At that moment, she found herself at the top of the water near the pool edge, and the lifeguard pulled her out. Witnesses said her body had sunk to the bottom then suddenly shot up as if pushed out of the water. The experience gave her a sense of purpose, knowing she would become a mother and healer (nurse), eliminated her fear of death, and strengthened her belief in God and the afterlife.
