At age 5, Donna was playing at a friend's house on a small lake in Florida. Despite warnings about a steep drop-off, her curiosity led her to hop into the water to find it. Unable to swim, she went under and found herself looking back at the shore from above the water, watching all the beach activity with profound peace and surrounded by brightness. She observed a woman on shore whose face changed to fear as she pointed and screamed upon realizing a child was drowning. A man then raced into the water to rescue her. She experienced incredible peace during the drowning but severe pain when revived. Only at age 8 did she learn she had been floating face-down with only her hair visible on the surface. This out-of-body experience profoundly impacted her life, leaving her without fear of death and with certainty about the afterlife.
