A 25-year-old woman underwent routine breast augmentation surgery in December 1994 when complications arose during the procedure. Though she was under general anesthesia, she suddenly found herself moving through a dark tunnel at tremendous speed, thinking "I must be dead" and "Where am I going?" She was aware she was no longer in her body and knew this was reality, not a dream.
She emerged from the tunnel to find herself running as a child through a grassy field toward a giant sun, with a blonde-haired, blue-eyed boy holding her hand. The most remarkable aspect was experiencing pure, intense love that came in waves - within her, around her, everything. She described it as endless heartbeats of love, each wave bringing even more intensity. She felt no fear whatsoever, only pure happiness, joy, and complete peace. She wanted nothing more than to reach the light, feeling total acceptance and peace about everything she had ever done in life. Suddenly she heard her name being called from behind and realized she had a choice - to continue forward or return. Though she doesn't remember making the conscious choice, she next found herself with doctors standing over her saying "NICHOLE, Stay with us Nichole" while experiencing intense physical pain. She saw everyone standing around her body from outside herself before returning. She spent years feeling depressed and angry about being brought back, believing she was meant to leave that day. It took her 20 years to realize she had actually made the choice to return. The experience left her knowing that love is all there really is and all that matters. She now works to raise awareness about the power of collective love and lives by the mantra "I LOVE therefore I AM."
