At age 5, Don was hospitalized in intensive care with critical vital signs for unknown condition. He rose 50-60,000 feet above Earth, higher than he's since flown, seeing Earth's curvature and lights from cities across the Atlantic. He understood all people in all places were connected as one regardless of language/nationality. He saw blue atmosphere as sun passed through it. He entered a pitch-black, cold tunnel filled with evil, threatening people who hated him and wanted to harm him - they seemed trapped forever without warmth or hope, jealous and malevolent. A man took his hand saying "Don't worry, they can't hurt you as long as you're with me," and they floated upward through the tunnel into light. The tunnel entrance was in a rocky hillside on another planet in space. Looking down a hill, he saw a glowing city in a valley that filled him with complete happiness and peace, knowing he belonged there. He wanted to go but wondered about family - instantly understanding they were okay and would join him soon. A tall thin man he initially thought was his brother told him beautiful trees existed there with colors not on Earth - intense yet pastel, perfectly coordinated. As he moved toward the city, the man (not his brother) said "you have to go back." Next morning, his condition miraculously resolved. He excitedly told parents he'd gone to heaven, naming his stuffed dog "Erfy" to mark seeing Earth from space. Since then, he's had recurring psychic abilities including premonitions of deaths, 9/11, and market crashes.
