On June 17, 1997, 16-year-old David was coughing up fluid from his lungs that had accumulated in his windpipe due to newly developed asthma. He ran to the bathroom trying to breathe and after several attempts to dislodge the fluid, was on his knees over the sink, knowing he was dying. Thoughts and regrets ran through his head about never traveling, leaving loved ones, missing experiences. Then regret left his body and his eyes closed. Light got brighter all around him, his arms opened straight out and he became weightless, floating like in a pool. It was warm, peaceful, and all regrets, pain and stress disappeared. He stared into a circular light source, floating on his back toward it feeling remarkable and positive. Then he felt a thud, sitting on the bathroom floor with his mother there, hyperventilating and disoriented. The experience was so vivid he remembers it like yesterday 20 years later. His life flashed before his eyes with automatic planning of affairs before leaving. The tunnel/circle of light and absolute quiet made him unafraid of death and gave him greater respect for life.
