At age 18 in 1991, Concetta underwent minor turbinate surgery that should have lasted 30 minutes but took 5 hours due to life-threatening internal bleeding. She found herself out of body at the back of her head, watching her body peacefully like a mother watching a child, loving it but having difficulty recognizing it as hers. A blinding light appeared to her right, ordering her firmly without words not to turn around because it wasn't a place she had to see. The light being placed its hand on her anesthetized face and moved it, causing blood to flow from her mouth and unblocking her throat, saving her life. She then circled in the air and passed through a wall into the next room where a nun was sterilizing surgical instruments. The nun became frightened when she sensed Concetta's presence and looked up, seeing through the glass what was happening - Concetta losing blood - and screamed, alerting medical staff. Concetta felt sucked into a dark place she knew was her brain, stayed there briefly, then woke up. A week later, a classmate gave her the book "Life After Life." Since then, the being who saved her has remained present, solving problems concretely, once speaking to and hugging her. She also had a childhood drowning experience at age 5 where a cone of light taught her to swim telepathically.
