In July 1977, 33-year-old Monique was at a beach where the water was 26°C when she went into anaphylactic shock from an allergy to cold, suffering three cardiac arrests. During the third arrest, she left her body and found herself in a rosy, golden, soft landscape walking on clouds in a David Hamilton-style setting. Feeling completely comfortable, she thought "If this is being dead, it's really good." After advancing on the clouds, she encountered a bright white silhouette - an angel or the Virgin Mary - who communicated telepathically: "You have to return, your son (age 7) needs you." Immediately upon hearing this, she awoke on the beach in the arms of a bearded nurse named Jean-Michel whom she initially mistook for Jesus. She was transported to medical offices for treatment. For years she didn't discuss the experience until finding books by Dr. Moody and others, which validated her experience. Her sister-in-law had similar books and listened without laughing, which encouraged her. The experience eliminated her fear of death, though she acknowledges it's still difficult to leave life. She now has more efficient prayers and contact with her guardian angel.
