Cassandra P, severely ill with pustules covering her body inside and out, experienced an NDE during high fever. Her mother was praying aloud when a blue ray of light descended from above, touching Cassandra's chest and dispelling the burning heat with exquisite coolness that spread throughout her body. She found herself traveling up the blue ray at great speed, experiencing indescribable beauty, joy, and release. Looking back down the light shaft, she saw her body on the bed appearing matchbox-sized in the distance, with her mother kneeling beside it. Deciding she couldn't abandon her mother who had already lost three babies, she turned and struggled to pull herself back into her body. The return felt heavier and slower, like fitting into a too-tight shoe. She regained consciousness to her mother shaking and slapping her, screaming "Don't you dare die!" Her fever broke during the experience and she recovered over 3-4 weeks. The experience eliminated her fear of death and led her to later volunteer in palliative care. She committed to this incarnation through her choice to return for her mother's sake.
