At age five, Carlos was suffering from Scarlet Fever with a bright red rash covering most of his body and high fever. He was lying on the sofa in agonizing pain with ringing in his ears, heightened by his mother's attempts to cool his body with an ice-filled kitchen towel. Looking up at his mother, he could see the fear in her face as she frantically tried to lower his temperature. Then suddenly there was complete silence - the ringing stopped and the pain vanished. From a higher elevation, he watched his mother kneeling beside the sofa, shaking his body. This lasted for what seemed seconds before the noises and pain returned. Despite being only five years old, he was completely aware of what had happened, though he didn't understand how or why he knew. The experience gave him perfect calm during the separation from his body. He has always maintained unusual calm in dangerous situations since then and developed a sixth sense allowing him to envision and prevent potentially harmful outcomes. The memory remains more vivid than any other events from that time period.
