Cali experienced insulin shock with unconsciousness and tachycardia in an ambulance. She found herself in a place strangely devoid of detail but not a void, seated with her deceased mother who had died when Cali was in her mid-20s. Her mother wore a dress from her final years and appeared healthy. They talked, with her mother providing reassurance and advice. Though they had made a promise before her death that she would provide verifiable unknown information, this didn't occur. Cali knew she was dead or dying but felt no strong emotion, only distant confusion and gladness to see her mother. Upon awakening with glucose, she immediately asked the paramedic "Where did I go?" He uncomfortably assured her she never left the vehicle. In the ER, she had trouble remembering names. Cali, being a scientist's child, concluded she was likely conversing with her internalized memory of her mother rather than her actual mother. She forgot the conversation content shortly after, despite initially remembering it. The experience differed from childhood hallucinations and felt real. She previously had an OBE as a teen that her skeptical father validated by sharing his similar experience.
