During surgery for tubal ligation the day after delivering a child, Brenda experienced complications. She suddenly found herself in the presence of deceased people who were happy to see her. She knew who each person was at the time but cannot identify them now. She was completely herself, free of bodily defense mechanisms. A voice behind her asked "But what about Earth?" and she saw a vision of beautiful fall trees in western New York. She then saw herself, her husband, and four children, feeling a pull to return. Despite bargaining to stay, she was told she would remember everything. A presence beside her guided her back "the long way" through what she calls a tunnel. During the return journey, she saw three future events in her life, two causing great shudders. They descended through the hospital roof, passing through floors where she saw people walking and working. In the operating room, she observed her body and heard the doctor with his accent saying he would not lose her over such a simple operation. She refused to return until the being lost patience and moved his hand, instantly placing her back in her void body. The doctor instructed her to breathe, which she initially refused, then felt "living waters" fill her body. The three future events she saw later occurred exactly as shown.
