At age seven, Mike was hospitalized with spinal meningitis. Doctors told his parents he would either die or become a vegetable. He was severely dehydrated and receiving IV fluids, experiencing extreme pain. Wanting the pain to stop, he suddenly felt himself leaving his body and floating upward without ceiling constraints.
From above, he observed the entire hospital room scene: his mother and aunt crying, nurses and doctor talking with his father, everyone acting as if something terrible was happening. He continued floating slowly upward while watching below, feeling profound relief and serenity he'd never known before. He heard someone saying all would be taken care of, though saw no one. He observed the nurse take his special pillow, saying it was ruined from sweating and she would dispose of it. Not wanting to lose his pillow, he forced himself back into his body and grabbed it while the nurse was still close. The pain was gone when he returned. Specific observations included the exact scene in the room with multiple people's positions and actions, and crucially, the nurse's specific words about disposing of his sweat-ruined pillow. After recovery, he developed abilities to sense what people might say next and occasionally sense impending deaths. --- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: The out-of-body experience and spiritual separation from physical suffering align with biblical concepts of body and spirit (2 Corinthians 12:2-4). The voice providing comfort without visible form could represent divine or angelic presence. The experience of profound peace transcending earthly suffering reflects biblical promises. Unbiblical elements: The post-NDE psychic abilities (predicting speech, sensing deaths) could be viewed as problematic from conservative biblical perspectives, as divination and fortune-telling are condemned (Deuteronomy 18:10-12). However, biblical prophets did receive knowledge of future events from God.
