At age four, Beverly fell and sustained a critical head injury that caused her to lose consciousness. During this event, she experienced herself as being above her injured body, observing the child below from an elevated perspective. She was aware of both her injured four-year-old self and an older version of herself simultaneously, able to see from both viewpoints. The older version seemed to be helping the younger one. She experienced a profound sense of calmness with brightness and more vivid colors, particularly noting that blue was very prominent. Time seemed to have no meaning during the experience. Beverly felt she was in a mystical realm where she could see things in ways normally impossible. She suddenly understood everything about the universe and experienced scenes from both her past and the world's future, which later proved completely accurate. The experience left her feeling she never truly felt like a child of the correct age afterward, having gained knowledge and perspective beyond her years.
