In 1982, three-year-old Melissa was watching her father make a wooden horse for her. Excited about getting a pony, she hugged her German Shepherd dog tightly, causing it to bite her face near her eye. Her first memory of the out-of-body experience was seeing her father lift her over the fence to hand her to a neighbor. She observed her mother dragging the dog away and her siblings calling police, telepathically telling them to be calm. She watched herself convulsing in the ambulance. During the experience, she found herself in a bright, cloudy environment with a see-through floor. She was surrounded by bright light with a bright aura around herself. She heard a voice telling her everything was okay and felt observant and curious. She understood everything about the universe and knew she had no fear or worry. She saw the event replay like a movie. Upon waking, she heard her mother say she was waking up. Afterward, she saw two shadow figures at her bed's foot whispering about how cute she was. The experience gave her faith in a higher power and eliminated her fear of death.
