Angelo had a severe allergic reaction to penicillin during spinal surgery preparation in 2011. After the antibiotic injection, he experienced immediate itching, inability to breathe, and lost consciousness. His heart stopped and blood pressure dropped to zero. During the approximately three hours of resuscitation, he experienced a pleasant dream-like state where he floated above the hospital bed observing himself and the doctors below. He had vague life review memories passing quickly like a movie and entered a tunnel-like place feeling profound peace without fear. The experience felt extended though it lasted only seconds of real time. Upon awakening, he told doctors he had dreamed he was dead. He was stabilized in ICU and learned he had been clinically dead due to anaphylactic shock. The experience left him without fear of death and feeling that an afterlife definitely exists.
