Andrew was kayaking on Lake Tahoe in 1976 when rough weather caused him to fall into freezing water. Unable to move due to the cold, he sank and experienced himself descending into an abyss where time stopped and all fear vanished. A brilliantly bright light appeared, growing larger and closer, bringing him overwhelming happiness and drawing him like a child to mother. He felt profound peace, love, and understanding beyond description. At the light's edge, he encountered his deceased friend Tim and two other figures (possibly grandparents) who told him "it's not your time" and that something remained for him to do on earth. A powerful, loving voice confirmed this message. Instantly, he found himself at the water's surface holding the kayak. A lifeguard who had heard a voice telling him to walk the beach one more time was there but confirmed Andrew was already at the surface when he arrived. This experience, along with subsequent near-death events, convinced Andrew of divine protection and purpose.
