At age 14, Amanda accidentally received an overdose of narcotics for menstrual pain. She had an out-of-body experience where she observed her mother screaming and trying to wake her, then watched her uncle carry her out of the house with her feet dangling. She traveled through a dark tunnel with flashing neon lights of all colors, moving at full speed in a tornado-like motion toward a bright white light that grew wider as she approached. She found herself standing in the most beautiful place she had ever seen, surrounded by peace, beautiful grass and trees, with wonderful music and laughter. The experience ended when she heard her name and found herself in a hospital with medical staff and an IV. The experience profoundly changed her life, eliminating her fear of death and sparking intense interest in spiritual matters, leading to extensive reading about near-death experiences, spirituality, and consciousness.
