Young mother experienced severe postpartum hemorrhage two weeks after premature birth of son with Down syndrome. While visiting hospitalized newborn, sudden severe bleeding began "like a faucet." Became weak, taken to different hospital where she lost consciousness during emergency treatment. Left body observing medical team working, experiencing no fear but rather safety, peace and warmth. Passed through tunnel toward light, sensing presence of deceased loved ones. Felt overwhelming unconditional love and knew she was "home." Conflicted about leaving due to sick newborn son's needs, she chose to return. Tragically, son died in her arms 24 hours later from intestinal infection. Experience transformed her from non-religious to deeply spiritual, eliminated fear of death, and created lasting awareness of afterlife reality. Developed heightened empathy and ability to sense others' emotions. Strengthened relationship with mother through understanding gained during experience.
