Thomas was lifting weights when he suffered a descending aortic aneurysm rupture. He experienced everything during surgery - feeling the blood spraying his face, tasting it, hearing the saw cut through his ribs, and being aware while strapped down. His soul left his body and he walked invisibly through the hospital, hearing staff say they didn't think he would survive. He then walked on a smooth, wide path following beautiful angelic music through large gates of iron and gold. Inside, his deceased grandfather Tom warned him not to go down a sloping walkway to the right where hundreds of people were being dragged, bitten, and beaten by small demonic beings amid the terrible smell of burning flesh. Thomas could still hear beautiful singing from another direction but walked back through the gates and returned to his body on the operating table. He continues to experience spiritual phenomena, seeing beings others cannot see and feeling God's presence constantly. He knows both Heaven and Hell are absolutely real.
